OUR HISTORY

OUR HISTORY

Back in 1993, mountain biking had only just got started on its trail in Brazil when we, two engineers who specialized in Materials Science and hydraulic systems design, decided to make our dream come true. We started to develop the first bike suspension forks made in Brazil, in the city of São José dos Campos/SP. At that moment, ProShock was born!

Our early designs became prototypes that we tested and perfected until we had created our first suspension fork, the H50 model, to be introduced into the market. The H50 suspension fork was hydropneumatic (air/oil), and it featured pressure adjustment of its air chambers, something which was very advanced technology back then. Our suspension forks used to be a work of craft, and they were made in the house backyard, the place where ProShock started its production.

Building upon our H50 design, a whole product line of suspensions was created, including models such as the HR60 and HR70. These became famous in the 90s, after being tested and approved by Brazilian mountain-biking champions.

The beginning

Building upon our H50 design, a whole product line of suspensions was created, including models such as the HR60 and HR70. These became famous in the 90s, after being tested and approved by Brazilian mountain-biking champions.

The expansion

The expansion of our product range in 1997 boosted our company’s growth so much that the tiny space at the back of the house was no longer enough to meet the production demand. ProShock needed proper, larger premises, and soon the construction of our new headquarters would start on the corner of a neighboring district.

Because our business evolved with a focus on developing new technologies, there was a need for hiring other qualified professionals. A young engineer joined the team in 2003 to start his career with us at ProShock, becoming both a partner and an executive officer in the company some years later.

In 2004 we introduced our renowned Ultra line into the market, being the first line of suspension forks to feature a made-in-Brazil, magnesium-alloy single block. The flagship of this product line was the Ultra XC suspension fork, ideal for cross country and very popular among competing athletes at the time.

The year 2007 saw the development of the acclaimed Dual Air system, which was used in the design of our One Air suspension fork. This was the first suspension featuring the double air spring system that ProShock introduced to the market.

ProShock was awarded a prize by the National Industry Confederation in 2009, which acknowledged all our effort in building our brand values. For a small company to win first place in innovation and productivity nationwide is a great achievement, and ours was the first and only company in the two-wheel segment in Brazil to do so.

The recognition

The innovation

Another milestone in our history came in 2013, when we launched the line of suspensions with the P32 technology and 32 mm diameter upper tubes. This design offers enhanced performance, providing more satisfaction to our Brazilian mountain bikers.

ProShock brought about innovation again in 2017, when we launched our Viber suspension with the exclusive SVI technology. It allows the biker to adjust the hydraulic system in order to make the suspension firm when riding on even ground, and damped when riding on rugged terrain. The system uses the concept of an automatic lock, which offers the biker many advantages.

In 2020 we launched our first maintenance online course. We chose the Onix/Onix Dark suspension fork as the subject of this course, and we offered it by using a specific online platform for online learning. We are proud to say that ProShock was the first Brazilian company in its segment to offer an official in-house online course to its customers.

ProShock achieved another milestone in 2021 when we launched the long-awaited line of suspension forks with a 15×100-millimeter thru axle system. Based on the Spider concept, this product line features a unique design for the suspension forks, which is both bold and robust, and still exceptionally rigid and singularly beautiful. In addition to its structural advantages, this line features many improvements creating a premium product for the Brazilian and foreign markets.

In 2022, ProShock launched the Grap suspension fork, suitable for Gravel bikes, being the first suspension fork in the world for this riding style with automatic lockout system. A significant innovation for a growing market niche. This launch also represents enormous importance for the company, as it is the first suspension fork designed for another discipline after many years of launching products only for Cross Country.

That same year, the company began an audacious industrial expansion plan and transferred the factory from its hometown, São José dos Campos/SP, to a new, larger headquarters, with a new and modern infrastructure, located in the city of Guaramirim/SC. The transfer of the factory to the new headquarters represents a very important milestone in our history and illustrates the company’s determination to continue growing in a sustainable way, aiming for a promising future for the manufacture of high-technology suspensions in Brazil.

In 2023, ProShock launched another line of suspension forks much requested by the market, the Aríete line of suspensions with a 15×110 mm thru axle, popularly known as Boost. The project of this new line was developed inspired by the medieval tool battering ram, whose main characteristics are: exclusive bold design, very high stiffness, high-strength, low weight and high durability. The Aríete line features all the technology developed during the company’s more than 30 years of existence, resulting in a top-of-the-line product, manufactured in Brazil, with Brazilian raw materials and technology, competitive with the best products on the world market.
